Warks Avon Barbel Record
Exclusive: Dave Clarkson beats the warwickshire avon barbel record by 2oz, with a 16lb 2oz specimen

On January 4th, 2007 angler Dave Clarkson had the type of barbel session most anglers only dream about! Fishing the lower Warwickshire Avon, he set a new barbel river record by 2oz!
"I caught this fish on a short evening session between the hours of 9 and 12pm, and at around quarter past ten the fish took the bait"
Weighing 16lb 2oz, the fish is beleived to beat the Warks Avon barbel record according to the Barbel Fishing World Records List, beating the previous record of 16lb, caught by Andy Hart in 2005.
Dave used a 10mm halibut pellet fished on a band and wrapped in paste to tempt the huge fish. That was presented with a free-running 4oz grippa lead using a 2 foot, 10lb fluorocarbon hooklink to a drennan super specialist barbel hook in size 12.
Dave is understandably elated with the capture of this magnificant barbel
"That big girl was worth every blank, cold, wet and miserable hour on the bank. Im still in the clouds!"
The fish was witnessed, carefully weighed and photographed. The barbel was measured with a girth of 21 inches and measured 31 inches from nose to the base of the v in tail.
This fish sees Dave as a strong contender for the Bankside Cup monthly award.
